“A questioning mind is the greatest thing to inspire”

These are the words of Dr. William Ferrell, son of a great educator and OSU College of Forestry’s first forest ecologist (hired in 1955).

His groundbreaking research in forest carbon storage paved the way for using forest management to mitigate climate change and continues to impact old growth conservation.

Dr. Ferrell’s family, friends and colleagues dedicated the Forest Discovery Program to honor his life and work. This program aims to share Dr. Ferrell’s love of nature and science with OSU Research Forest visitors and inspire a new generation of young scientists.
