The OSU Barley Project uses barley breeding to address the Land Grant mission of stimulating economic development, contributing to the fundamental body of knowledge, and educating. Economic development: release of varieties for malting, brewing, distilling, food, and feed. Fundamental body of knowledge: genetics of barley flavor and resistance to diseases and environmental stresses. Education: Using barley as a case study for selection, evolution, and economic impact of genetic variation from Kindergarten through Graduate School.
